Westbound I-70 traffic moving again in mountains after sluggish start to holiday weekend

GEORGETOWN, Colo. - Motorists trying to escape to the mountains Friday night faced three-hour delays on Interstate 70.

As skiers and snowboarders head out for the Presidents' Day weekend, there have been long delays on westbound I-70 from Empire to the Eisenhower Tunnel, the Colorado Department of Transportation said just before 10 p.m.

Meanwhile, an accident closed westbound I-70 at Vail Pass from about 6:20 p.m. to 9:50 p.m., CDOT said.

CDOT said traffic speeds on westbound I-70 finally returned to normal at 11:40 p.m.
