CONIFER, Colo. - West Jefferson Middle School in Conifer was evacuated Tuesday afternoon over an unidentified compound found in the chemistry lab. The Sheriff's Office originally described it as an "unstable item."
Melissa Reeves, a spokeswoman for the school district, said that during a routine inspection of the science lab, an unlabeled bottle of a liquid was found. Following procedure, they evacuated and called for assistance from a hazardous materials team.
Adams and Jefferson County HazMat teams were dispatched to the school.
The students were moved to the football field for safety, then taken to Conifer High School for dismissal.
The school is located at 9449 South Barnes Avenue in Conifer.
