CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. - State officials have approved a plan to expand westbound Interstate 70 to three lanes at the twin tunnels near Idaho Springs.
The eastbound side of the highway was expanded to three lanes last year.
The Colorado Transportation Commission approved $55 million yesterday to expand the westbound bore. Work is expected to start this spring and be completed by the end of this year.
The expansion is part of a long-term project to ease congestion on the heavily traveled interstate, which links Denver with some of the state's largest ski areas.
