DENVER - Denver Water officials said crews completed repairs to the broken water main at 1300 S. Colorado Blvd.
After the pipes were repaired, just before 11 p.m., work to repave the road began. All lanes were reopened around 3 a.m., about two hours ahead of the predicted time.
During the work, northbound Colorado Boulevard was closed between Louisiana Avenue and Arkansas Avenue. The southbound side was also briefly closed after the break first occurred.
The 12-inch-diameter pipe, installed in 1955, ruptured at approximately 2:45 p.m.
Denver Water said it has not identified the cause of the break at this time.
Officials said many factors can contribute to a water main breaking, including age, pipe material, how corrosive the soil is, water flow, temperature and more.
