DENVER -- The freezing temperatures over the last couple of days is keeping water crews busy Friday as they work to repair at least four major breaks across the Denver metro area.

A water main break at University Boulevard and Evans Avenue slowed morning traffic in the area. The break happened around 1 a.m. and spilled water out onto the intersection. The water from the spill turned to ice, causing slick conditions for drivers.

Crews blocked lanes in the area as they worked to contain the break from the 12-inch main. Denver Water was able to reroute the water and coat the intersection in de-icer. The area will be closed at 7 p.m. Friday as crews return to repair the break.

Another major break shut down Sheridan Boulevard at West 101st Avenue. Traffic was being diverted onto neighborhood streets in the area.

Crews are also working to repair a break at Evans Avenue and South Raritan Street. Traffic is down to one lane in each direction.

A fourth break is keeping Denver Water busy and affecting at least 18 residents. The break occurred at East Vassar near South Newport. There is no word on when the 6-inch line will be repaired.
