DENVER - A water main break in Denver sent water shooting more than 20 feet into the air.

The break happened around 9:30 a.m. on Alameda Avenue at Newton Court, between Sheridan and Federal boulevards.

Denver Water said it appears that a valve broke. The company is working to isolate the break.

There is a hill in the area, so Denver Water has asked the city of Denver to send out sand trucks to protect drivers from a layer of ice that will likely form, said Travis Thompson with Denver Water.
