AURORA, Colo. - In support of efforts to oppose a red light camera ban in Colorado, the Aurora Police Department released a video Tuesday that shows motorists running red lights and causing crashes.
A bill is moving through the Colorado legislature that aims to ban red light and speeding cameras in Colorado. But several police chiefs testified in opposition of the measure -- including Chief Dan Oates with Aurora Police.
Oates told 7NEWS that the cameras have dramatically decreased the number of red light runners in Aurora.
He believes that the decision to keep or get rid of the cameras should be up to the city, not up to the state.
However, lawmakers in support of the bill say the cameras are only used to boost revenue, and don't provide a good enough pay off with increased safety.
