COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Dozens of parishioners were surprised Sunday to see police suddenly surround their church in Colorado Springs.
Officers said they were initially called to the 700 block of Manitou Boulevard, about a mile away from the church, on a report that a man had violated a protection order.
When officers arrived, they said the suspect, Jeremy Hunter, ran off.
Officers and a K-9 spotted the man at 22nd Street and Uintah, but he got away.
Officers then spotted Hunter going into a church at 19th and Henderson, according to Colorado Springs Police.
Police said officers set up a perimeter around the church, contacted the suspect inside and he gave up without an incident.
Officers said the church was occupied at the time, but the Sunday service had not yet started.
Hunter was arrested for felony warrant as well as for violation of a protection order, police said.
