DENVER – It turns out not all states are created equal when it comes to making a living in medicine, but Colorado is one of the best.

That’s according to financial website WalletHub, which just released a list of what it considers to be the best states in which to be a physician in 2017.

Colorado comes in at number 13 on the list, beating out neighboring Wyoming, Utah and New Mexico.

To come up with the rankings, WalletHub compared all 50 states and the District of Columbia on 14 different factors, including average wage for doctors, starting salary, the number of hospitals per capita and malpractice liability insurance rates.

Based on those metrics, Iowa takes the title of best state in which to practice medicine and New York is the worst, according to WalletHub.

Here are the top 15 states:

1. Iowa
2. Minnesota
3. Idaho
4. Wisconsin
5. Kansas
6. South Dakota
7. Montana
8. Mississippi
9. Alabama
10. Tennessee
11. North Dakota
12. Nevada
13. Colorado
14. Arizona
