JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. - Residents along Bear Creek, from Evergreen to Morrison, are being encouraged to leave the area, if possible, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
The initial evacuation order was issued at 11:37 p.m. on Thursday.
"Level 1 evacuations ordered for Upper Bear Creek from the dam to Echo Lake Drive. Level 1 evacuations means to be prepared to leave," the Sheriff's Office tweeted.
The main intersection in downtown Evergreen, where Highways 73 and 74 meet, was closed before sunrise because of high water.
Highway 73 was initially closed to Buffalo Park Road at 6 a.m. That closure was extended to Forest Hill Road at 7 a.m.
Highway 74 was closed from Kittredge to Evergreen.
When that happened, deputies and the Morrison Police Department said it was going door-to-door in the Bear Creek area to advise residents of the potential for flooding.
An evacuation center for Jefferson County is open at Arvada High School, at 7951 W 65th Ave, deputies said.
