GEORGETOWN, Colo. — The driver of an 18-wheeler killed in a crash on Interstate 70 near Georgetown Tuesday morning has been identified.

The Colorado State Patrol identified the driver Wednesday as Sean Bello, 41, of Canton, Ohio. His female passenger, Judith Bello, 41, was transported to St. Anthony Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Troopers say Sean Bello was traveling westbound on I-70 when — for an unknown reason — he crossed the median into oncoming lanes of traffic and slammed into an overpass support column. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The crash shut down the interstate for several hours.

A preliminary inspection of the bridge showed no major damage. However, the total extent of the damage won't be known until a thorough inspection is completed, CDOT said during a conference call.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. However, troopers say alcohol and or drugs are not suspected at this time.
