GREELEY, Colo. - More bad news for troubled wind turbine manufacturer Vestas. The Danish manufacturer says it will cut production at its Brighton facility and slash employee hours.

The Greeley Tribune reports that Vestas will cut employee hours to 32 hours a week after the first of the year. Vestas announced the changes to the Weld County workforce on Monday.

In a statement, Vestas officials said the change will prevent further Colorado layoffs. Already this year, Vestas has cut roughly 500 jobs in Colorado, about 300 in Weld County.

Vestas said employees would have the hourly gap partly covered by unemployment benefits through a 2-year-old state program called WorkShare.
