JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. - Deputies have released an updated description of the man who attacked a woman who was walking on a bike path in Jefferson County.
The path, near C-470 and Wadsworth Blvd., includes a tunnel that goes underneath C-470. When the woman entered the tunnel last Friday morning, she was attacked and sexually assaulted.
"She's just a very brave lady," said Jefferson County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Jacki Kelley. "She was able to survive that, able to survive that attack and fight back."
The attacker is described as a white man, 30 to 40 years old, 5 feet 7 to 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 175 to 185 lbs, with a lanky and athletic build. He had tan skin and light brown hair. Sheriff's deputies told 7NEWS he was wearing bike clothes at the time.
"We have no idea how he got there, how he left, the means which he used to escape. No idea," Kelley said.
On Monday, deputies added three new items to the description. They said the man had acne scars on both cheeks, bushy eyebrows and a large, pronounced Adam's apple.
"The fact that this happened in daylight, first thing in the morning is stunning," said Mark Techmeyer, a spokesperson for the sheriff's department. "It has us concerned, we want to get our hands on this guy real quick."
"Because he was able to get away with this crime is what concerns us," Kelley said. "He hasn't been identified, he hasn't been caught, he hasn't been located."
Deputies told 7NEWS they have received more than 15 tips that they are following up on. They also said a large number of investigators are working on this case.
Deputies believe the man has frequented the path before.
"The person is definitely someone who frequents the area, does a lot of trail walking. He has been seen by the victim at least in the last couple months," Deputy Josh Garcia said.
If anyone recognizes this man, or has any information regarding this crime, they are asked to call the Jeffco Sheriff’s Office tip line at 303-271-5612.
