DENVER - A Union Pacific railroad bridge between Denver and Kansas City is closed for inspection after an early morning fire.
The Byers Fire Department received a call about the fire at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Chief Mike Dische confirmed.
The fire damaged the west end of the West Bijou Creek Bridge, west of the town of Byers.
The bridge will remain out of service until the railroad can inspect the damage, Dische said.
This line runs from Denver to Kansas and handles 8 to 10 trains a day, according to Mark Davis, the Union Pacific Media Director for Colorado. Two trains are stopped and waiting, while others have been rerouted, Davis said.
Investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire.
