GOLDEN, Colo. — Two people escaped a house fire early Wednesday morning, but lost two pets in the blaze.

Karyln Tilley with the Golden Fire Department said around 7:20 a.m., they received a call about a mobile home fire. Crews responded to the corner of Ponderosa Circle and Pinto Street.

Two people were inside when the home caught fire but were able to escape before firefighters arrived. The man and woman were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, Tilley said.

She said two pets were also inside the home at the time. A dog escaped, but later died. Tilley said the fire department believes a cat died inside.

Firefighters with Pleasant View and West Metro Fire also responded to assist the Golden Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
