COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Two young children are dead following a stabbing in Colorado Springs overnight.

Police said officers responded to a call in the 900 block of Carlisle Street shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday and found three victims with apparent stab wounds. All three victims were taken to the hospital.

A 5-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy died from their injuries. The third victim, the children's father, suffered injuries that police said were not life-threatening.

Tuesday afternoon, the El Paso County Coroner's Office identified the children as 5-year-old Sophia Murphy and 7-year-old Noah Murphy.

Police said they took into custody Malik Vincent Murphy, 19. ABC affiliate KRDO reports the young victims are siblings and the suspect is the children's older brother.

Murphy faces two counts of first-degree murder.

Neighbors of the family will be holding a candlelight vigil for the two children at Flanagan Park at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Anyone with information that could help police in their investigation should contact Colorado Springs police at 719-444-7000.
