DENVER — If it feels muggy, you're not wrong. Colorado is getting a dose of tropical moisture this week that will bring storms to the area that will increase in severity through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, spotty storms could creep into the area on Tuesday, bringing with them heavy downpours, lightning, small hail, thunderstorms and gusty wind.

Denver7's First Alert meteorologist team expects gusts of wind, which could exceed 40 miles per hour beginning at about 3 p.m., could be the largest weather threat.

Other threats include the severe lightning and possible isolated flash flooding near burn scars.

Areas of concern

The most storms of the day will slam the high country, starting in the afternoon.

The Denver metro area can expect isolated storms starting in the afternoon.

The areas south and east of the city will receive storms starting in the afternoon, including Douglas County, Arapahoe County, Broomfield County, Elbert County, Adams County, Lincoln County, Logan County, Washington County, Sedgwick County and Phillips County.

Timing and tools

For those in the metro area, expect storms between 3 and 7 p.m., although it's not possible to predict exactly what towns the isolated storms will strike.
