EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. - 6 pounds of marijuana was found by State Troopers during a traffic stop in Eagle County. In turn, that discovery also led to the discovery of another 7 pounds of pot.
The trooper was conducting a routine traffic stop last Monday when he smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle, said Jessie Mosher of the Eagle County Sheriff's Office.
The trooper called for a K9 unit from the Eagle County Sheriff's Office trained in narcotics detection. During the dog's search, a large duffel bag with 6 pounds of marijuana inside was recovered, Mosher said.
Deputies arrested the driver, Warren R. Johnson, 30, of Avon Colo.
Mosher said the driver told deputies the duffel bag belonged to him and that he was taking it outside county lines.
Johnson then led deputies to his home where they found 17 marijuana plants and an additional 7 pounds of packaged marijuana, Mosher said.
Johnson was booked into the Eagle County Detention Facility on a $15,000 bond for charges of possession with intent to distribute -- a class III felony.
