One of Telluride's most exclusive estates is still on the market for $59 million.
More than 16 months after we reported that Tom Cruise's home was for sale, the property is still available and the price has not been reduced.
It's a home Cruise designed himself back in the 1990s. After owning the home and property for more than 20 years, Cruise is selling the home because he's not using it very often.
While real estate broker Bill Fandel's website calls the home a "Hollywood screen legend's iconic alpine estate," he won't talk about his client, but he does enjoy talking about this incredible property.
"It's on a knoll-top, overlooking the entire Telluride valley," Fandel explains.
The estate includes 298 acres. That's not a typo. The estate includes nearly 300 acres of rolling meadows and forest minutes from Telluride.
"It offers privacy, yet proximity, to the town of Telluride, the resort, and the airport. They're all less than 10 minutes from the front gate," Fandel says.
This is part of the driveway. It's a 1-mile drive from the front gate to the home.
"The canopies of trees in the spring, the summer or the fall creates a very dramatic sense of arrival as you pass through two gates to the knoll-top setting surrounded by beautiful lawns that wrap around the property," Fandel said.
If you prefer to skip the drive, the property has its own private helipad.
And then there's the home. It's a 10,000-square foot, 7-bedroom, 9-bath home.
Fandel says it was, "Carefully planned over the course of several years."
The Wall Street Journal took a tour and said the house includes an in-home fitness center, a recreation room and library. The listing says the home has a private elevator, staff quarters and three-car garage.
Few have been inside the home in the last 25 years, Fandel said. But let's take a look inside.
The entry features bleached cedar timbers.
Walk into a gourmet kitchen with a view.
Fandel says the home features, "Intimate spaces [that] frame views of the surrounding mountains."
Inside the one of the gathering rooms, you'll not only enjoy the views outside, but inside you'll find native stone used in a fireplace.
This is a home with lots of spaces, like this nook/library.
This room with a view also has a pool table and a piano.
Even the bedrooms feature cedar walls.
There are plenty of places to sit outside and enjoy the scenery.
If you want to go for a walk or a ride, the property has its own private trail system. If that's not enough, the property has its own private gate to access tens of thousands of acres of national forest land that surrounds it.
There's also a private motocross track and a lighted recreation court for tennis, basketball and hockey.
But if you really need privacy, even from the other guests, then you'll want to stay in the 1,600-square-foot "story-book" guest house. It has 3-bedrooms and 3-baths, according to the Today Show.
As you explore here, you'll want to watch for elk. A herd of some 300 elk roam the property.
The property has only had two owners in the last 100 years -- a family of Basque sheep herders who settled here in the 1920s, then Cruise.
Cruise assembled the property through a series of several land purchases.
"It has a great legacy of ownership, " Fandel said. "The asset is remarkable, it's one of the most dramatic in the state, especially with the ease of access."
Priced at $59 million, the Cruise estate is offered exclusively through listing broker Bill Fandel of Telluride's Sotheby's International Realty.
