Fans report trouble buying tickets to 'Book of Mormon' in Denver

DENVER - After about 2-and-a-half hours of problems buying tickets to the Denver run of the hit Broadway musical The Book of Mormon, fans tell 7NEWS they are getting through and finding good seats.

Dozens of people complained to 7NEWS and wrote complaints on the Denver Center for Performing Arts Facebook page after tickets went on sale at 10 a.m.

"I've tried multiple browsers, clearing cache, refreshing, etc and all it will do is time out," wrote Katie Matteo. "I've now gotten at least three DIFFERENT error pages all telling me something different. This is absolutely ridiculous."

"How about you get the website working," wrote Adam Van Alphen.

"I was able to get on the site 3 times and got kicked off all 3 times.  I tried again and received the message that all tickets were sold out," a 7NEWS viewer said.

"Tickets to The Book of Mormon are no longer available," the Denver Center website stated at 10:30 a.m. However, Denver Center spokesperson Heidi Bosk said that message was incorrect and should no longer be appearing.

Bosk explained there was an overwhelming response by fans who want to see the show.

"We are not sold out," Bosk said. "Denver loves 'The Book of Mormon' and we are experiencing a high volume of demand. We recommend you empty your cache, reset your browser or try using a different browser. Alternatively, you may call the box office at 303.893.4100 or visit us in person at the ticket counter located at Speer & Arapahoe in the Helen Bonfils Theatre Complex."

Around 12:30 p.m., fans started reporting that they were able to get through the system and buy tickets.

"II know it's ridiculous but keep trying! We finally got through after trying for 2.5 hours nonstop," wrote Ashley Buckner.

"I finally was able to get tickets after 2 hours," wrote Jason Kuykendoll. "Three times before I had tickets in my cart but wasn't able to complete the check out. Fourth time finally worked."

"3 hours later, we finally got tickets!," wrote Connie Girtin. "Also had many time outs after making it to purchase [sic]."

When the show came to Denver in 2012 tickets sold out in about five hours and fans who tried to buy tickets online complained about the theater's bogged-down website. Some online buyers said they were able to buy tickets after several hours of trying.

Created by Colorado natives Trey Parker and Matt Stone, The Book of Mormon has won nine Tony Awards including Best Musical.

The show runs October 22 through November 24, 2013 at the Buell Theatre.
