Thousands turn out for Cherry Creek Sneak; participants held moment of silence for Boston victims

Race included new bike parade

DENVER - Thousands turned out to participate in the annual Cherry Creek Sneak Sunday.

The event, which includes the Volkswagen 10-mile course as well as 5-mile, 3.1-mile and 1.5-mile sprint courses, featured a bike parade for the first time as part of the post-race block party. The race also provides shorter courses for children under the age of 8, as well as a costume contest for participants.

The Denver Post reported that the participants held a moment of silence to remember the Boston Marathon bombing victims.

Denver Police and the organizers of the race worked together to amp up security following the Boston bombings.

Tristan Mitchell, 27, won the men’s 10-mile race with a time of 56 minutes and 59 seconds, the newspaper reported. Nicole Chyr, 35, won the women’s 10-mile race with a time of one hour and four minutes.

Proceeds from the race support the Food Bank of the Rockies.
