Thornton police say double murder suspect Cimmeron Johns killed self during apartment standoff

THORNTON, Colo. - Authorities say a man suspected of killing two women before holing up in a Thornton apartment died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Thornton police say 37-year-old Cimmeron Johns shot himself in the chest during a standoff with SWAT officers that ended early Saturday. Officers surrounded the apartment after a daylong manhunt for Johns and exchanged gunfire with the suspect.

Johns is suspected in the disappearance and deaths of his estranged wife, 36-year-old Alisha Johns, and her mother, 56-year-old Sherri Pachello. The Weld County Sheriff's Department says two bodies found south of Frederick on Friday were the missing women.

Investigators believe the women were kidnapped Thursday after Alisha Johns went to visit her husband at his home in Frederick and her mother went to pick her up.
