THORNTON, Colo. – Thornton has once again landed atop a list purporting to rank the “safest” cities in the United States.

Alarms.org, which is the website of the National Council for Home Safety and Security trade association, used violent crime and property crime statistics from the FBI and local crime reports to compile its list.

With 244 violent crimes per 100,000 people and 2,533 property crimes per 100,000 people, Thornton beat out 763 other cities to land at number one.

Earlier this year, ApartmentList also ranked Thornton as the “safest” city in the country, while the city was conspicuously omitted from an Alarms.org list of the “safest” cities in Colorado in February.

Thornton police at the time cautioned against drawing any real safety conclusions from lists that look only at crime statistics. Doing so could lead to “simplistic and/or incomplete analyses that often create misleading perceptions adversely affecting cities and counties, along with their residents,” officers said.

Other Colorado cities on the list include Parker (33), Centennial (59) and Castle Rock (75).

Here are the top 10 “safest” cities, according to Alarms.org:

1. Thornton, CO
2. Greenwich, CT
3. Weston, FL
4. Johns Creek, GA
5. Sammamish, WA
6. Wheaton, IL
7. Flower Mound, TX
8. Middletown Township, NJ
9. West Bloomfield Township, MI
10. Aliso Viejo, CA
