DENVER – Good morning! Here’s what you need to know for today, Monday August 21.

1. The Great American Eclipse is finally here!

The moment we’ve all been waiting for 38 years has finally come to pass. The Great American Eclipse will begin in Denver at 10:23 a.m., will peak at 11:47 a.m. and end at 1:14 p.m. Where will you be watching from? Here’s your definitive guide: http://bit.ly/2iezmWE

2. Forecast looking good for eclipse viewing

The weather should cooperate for those watching the eclipse today. Skies will be clear in the morning but the typical late-morning and early-afternoon clouds will be developing.

3. Expect eclipse traffic

Traffic heading north into Wyoming is already fairly heavy this morning. Officials are expecting hundreds of thousands to make the trek north, so plan for lots of extra time if you're traveling today. We could see another traffic mess in the afternoon as people start to head back home.

4. Denver students go back to class (booooo!)

More than 50,000 students will go back to class today. District officials will commemorate several events to greet students for the 2017-2018 school year.

5. Larimer County now accepting “green waste”

Larimer County residents now have the option of keeping green waste out of the landfill. So, what is green waste? It's clean lumber, wood pallets, tree limbs and trimmings; tree trunks less than two feet in diameter by six feet long; and yard waste. Larimer County Solid Waste begins their Residential Green Waste Program on August 21, 2017.
