AURORA, Colo. – The teenager who was hospitalized after slipping under the water at Cherry Creek Reservoir Saturday died after the incident and likely drowned, authorities said Monday.

A spokesperson with the Arapahoe County Coroner identified the boy as Trent Nims, 15. The spokesperson said, “At this time, the cause of death appears to be drowning. There were no signs of trauma.”

Nims and his family were at the lake Saturday evening near the east boast ramp when Nims slipped into the water around 7:42 p.m. Saturday.

A South Metro Fire Rescue spokeswoman said she didn’t know the circumstances in which Nims fell into the water.

Two rescue boats and a dive team spent about an hour looking for the boy before finding him in about 8 feet of water 125 feet from the shore.

Nims was taken to Children’s Hospital after he was rescued, but later died.
