PUEBLO, Colo. - A teenager who was thrown out of an SUV during a rollover crash landed on a set of train tracks and was run over.
The white Ford Explorer lost control on northbound Interstate 25 in Pueblo at about 12:40 Sunday morning, according to the Pueblo Police Department.
The driver lost control just past 13th Street and the SUV tumbled over the nearby train tracks, police said.
An 18-year-old man landed on the tracks as a BNSF train was approaching. Police said the train was unable to stop in time and ran over the victim.
There were two other boys in the car - both 16 years old.
One is in the intensive care unit with life threatening injuries, according to police.
The other teen was held overnight for observation.
Investigators did not say which of the teens was behind the wheel at the time of the crash.
Police said speed appears to be a factor in the crash. It is not known whether alcohol was involved.
I-25 was closed for several hours overnight.
The accident is still under investigation.
