Teen dies, 3 injured in SW Denver crash

DENVER - A multi-vehicle crash in southwest Denver early Saturday killed a 17-year-old and injured at least three other people.

Police are investigating what they called one of the most confusing crash scenes they've witnessed.  They said the crash may have involved a street race but family members of the boy who died said Richard "Ricky" Reyes was just going to the nearby 7-Eleven in a Ford van when he was hit at about 2:30 a.m. at West Jewell Avenue and South Sheridan Boulevard.

Residents said what sounded like an explosion jolted them out of bed.

"A very loud crash," said local resident Dorothy Ochs. "(It was) real big."

She said one of the crash victims ended up on her lawn.  The debris field was 100 yards long.

Police said at least three vehicles were involved and possibly a fourth vehicle that left the scene.

Friends of 26-year-old Ricky Conger told 7NEWS she suffered a broken pelvis, ankle and leg and remains hospitalized.

A candlelight vigil is planned Sunday evening for Reyes.
