19-year-old North Carolina man, Reid Huffman, identified as pedestrian killed in Denver hit-and-run

18-year-old Eliu Jiminez arrested in hit-and-run

DENVER - Authorities have identified a 19-year-old North Carolina man as the pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run on Federal Boulevard on Saturday night.

Police say a man was struck while crossing South Federal Boulevard in the middle of the block, just north of West Dartmouth Avenue at about 10:30 p.m.

The Denver medical examiner identified the victim as Reid Bryan Huffman, who was transported to a hospital, where he was soon pronounced dead. An autopsy will be conducted on Huffman to determine the cause and manner of death.

Police have arrested 18-year-old Eliu Jiminez in connection with the hit and run. He is being held for held on investigation of vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a fatal accident and driving under the influence.

Police say Huffman was crossing Federal when he was hit by a southbound vehicle and knocked into the northbound lanes, where he was hit by a second vehicle.

The driver of the first vehicle stopped. Police believe Jiminez was driving a second car that hit Huffman, but kept driving.

The first driver was not arrested, police said.

A police helicopter helped search for Jiminez, who was spotted a short time later at Iliff Avenue and Irving Street.
