BOULDER, Colo. – As big technology companies like Google expand their presence in Colorado, the demand for coders and developers continues to grow and a Boulder-based coding school aims to help meet that demand.
CodeCraft School of Technology teaches students web development and user experience design with intensive “bootcamp” courses that last as little as 12 weeks.
While that doesn’t seem like a lot of time, CodeCraft co-founder Zach Daudert says students come out of the program well-prepared to jump right into the workforce.
“Everything we do is designed to actually get somebody a job once they graduate,” Daudert said. And it appears to be working: Daudert said nearly all of CodeCraft’s students find jobs within three to six months of graduating.
CodeCraft offers three different options: A full-time, 12-week web development bootcamp, a part-time, 24-week web development bootcamp and a 14-week, part-time user experience design bootcamp. All three bootcamps cost $10,500.
During the bootcamps, students get hands-on experience learning from professionals within that field. Daudert said one of CodeCraft’s instructors is a lead designer for Android who works at Google’s offices in Boulder.
There’s a growing number of services that offer coding classes online, but Daudert said there are some real advantages to learning in a more traditional classroom environment like what CodeCraft offers.
For starters, instructors are there to provide guidance, point out problems and help students overcome obstacles. Something as simple as a misplaced semicolon can mess up a piece of code, Daudert said, and without a second pair of eyes, a student can spend an agonizingly long time trying to figure out what’s wrong.
In addition, CodeCraft is designed to be efficient. Students spend all day immersed in their work and are able to get a lot accomplished in a short period of time.
“It’s just quicker,” Daudert said. “We can get you to that finish line much faster than if you self-guide.”
The next Full Stack Web Development cohort starts on July 3 and another cohort begins Sept. 25.
