ARVADA, Colo. - Arvada Police say a backpack found at Swanson Elementary School on Wednesday morning was not a threat.
Officers searched the school, issued an "all clear" and said classes could resume around 10:30 a.m.
The Arvada Fire Department was initially called out to the school on a report of a fire. That's when officials learned about a possible threat to the school involving a backpack, according to Arvada Police spokeswoman Jill McGranahan.
Students were evacuated to an area outside the school. Arvada Police said parents who wanted to pick up their students could at the parking lot on the west end of the school, at 68th & Jay St.
Police said officers were interviewing students and staff about the incident.
Swanson is a JeffCo school with 490 students in kindergarten to 6th grade.
