DURANGO, Colo. - A Durango woman convicted of lying to a grand jury investigating her husband's death has been sentenced to six years in prison.

The Durango Herald reports Suzanne Garcia was sentenced Monday. She was convicted in December of perjury, tampering with a witness and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Prosecutors said Garcia intentionally misled investigators and lied to a grand jury that was investigating the death of her husband Ted. They said she also coached her daughter to lie.

Prosecutors said it was all an attempt to protect her brother, Joseph Dernoga, who later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Ted Garcia's death in 2010.

Dernoga was living in Ted Garcia's basement at the time.

Testimony indicated Dernoga was behind on rent and possibly faced eviction.
