Suspicious fires probed in Fort Collins

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Ten suspicious fires were set outside buildings along South College Avenue early Sunday morning.

At 6:17a.m., Poudre Fire Authority began responding to small fires in juniper bushes and trash cans near buildings, all within a half-mile of each other.

Video from a dashboard camera shows how close the flames came to one building, but fire units were able to prevent significant damage from occurring to the structures.

Shift Battalion Chief Brandon Garcia said it appeared some of the fires may have been started while they were responded to other fires, and it all happened in daylight.

"That’s a big concern for us," said Garcia.  "And that’s why we need information to help locate this person or persons, so we can make sure this doesn’t happen again."

Fire investigators are working closely with detectives from Fort Collins Police Services to identify the person(s) responsible.

If anyone has any information on this fire, please contact the Colorado Arson Hotline at (877) 892-7766 or (877) 89-ARSON.
