Suspected drunk driver causes head-on crash on Colfax, Aurora police say

Female driver struck by suspect may not survive

A woman has life-threatening injuries after a head-on crash on East Colfax Avenue in Aurora overnight.

A man who is suspected of drunk driving was eastbound on the wrong side of Colfax in a blue Dodge at about 12:25 a.m., the Aurora Police Department said.

Two cars were traveling westbound in the left lane near Macon Street at the time, police said.

The first driver saw the Dodge approaching head on and swerved to the right avoiding a crash, investigators said.

The second car, a silver Hyundai, collided head on by the Dodge. The woman driving the Hyundai underwent emergency surgery and it is unknown at this time if she will survive, police said.

"Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt," police stated. "Had the female victim been wearing her seatbelt it is probable her injuries would have been lessened and not life threatening."

Excessive speed is not suspected.

The names of the people involved have not been released.
