GREELEY, Colo. - Fifteen years after he allegedly shot and killed a fellow worker in a Weld County onion field, a man is awaiting court hearings in Greeley.
Consuelo Zavala was arrested on Sept. 11 by Customs and Border Protection officers at the border crossing in San Luis, Ariz. According to Heath Montgomery, a spokesman for the Weld County District Attorney's Office, Zavala is suspected of killing Francisco Gasca in an onion field near Platteville on Aug. 25, 1997.
Montgomery said Zavala faces one count of first-degree murder and is being held without bond at the Weld County Jail. He is next scheduled to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 11.
