EDGEWATER, Colo. - A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the killing of an Edgewater man last week, authorities said Monday.
Floyd Anthony Sandoval Jr. was arrested Saturday on suspicion of first-degree murder in the slaying of 41-year-old John Goggin, said Jefferson County district attorney spokeswoman Pam Russell.
Sandoval appeared Monday in Jefferson County Court, where he was advised of his rights and the charges for which he is being held. He's being held without bond in Jefferson County Jail.
On Thursday afternoon, Edgewater police were called to a house at 2555 Sheridan Blvd. on a report of a shooting. Police found Goggin who was suffering from a possible gunshot wound inside in home. He was rushed to a hospital where he later died.
"There was no reason for it, he was an awesome guy," Christine Meece told 7NEWS.
Meece said Goggin lived in a garage he was renting at the time of the shooting. She described him as everybody's friend who would give a stranger the shirt off his back.
"The word on the street is that someone was trying to rob him. He didn't have much. He lived in a garage, he was helping everybody else out," Meece said.
Edgewater police are being assisted in the investigation by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, the Westminster Police Department and the Wheat Ridge Police Departments.
