THORNTON, Colo. – A drug suspect is dead and three officers were injured following a Taser incident Thursday night in Thornton.

Thornton police were called to the Western Convenience Store, at 9190 N. Huron Street, following a report of a possible drug deal.

Upon arrival, a Thornton Police Officer attempted to contact a suspect in a black pick-up truck, when the driver fled the vehicle and ran westbound across Huron Street. A Thornton officer caught up with the suspect in a nearby parking lot, at which time the suspect attacked and assaulted the officer, according to a news release.

As other officers arrived to assist, the suspect remained combative, and a Federal Heights Police Officer deployed his Taser. The suspect was then taken into custody, and immediately experienced a medical episode, police say. Paramedics rushed the suspect to a local hospital where the suspect was pronounced dead.

Three Thornton Police Officers were transported to the hospital for injuries sustained during the incident, and are still currently being treated for their injuries.

Police say they recovered a substantial amount of money from the suspect, and a large quantity of suspected drugs from the suspect’s vehicle.

The suspect’s identity is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of next of kin. The cause of death will be determined by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.
