DENVER – As of Monday, summer watering rules are now in effect in Denver.
That means there are some restrictions on watering your lawn and other plants during the warmer months, when water waste can be a problem. Break the rules, and you could end up with a fine.
The following rules are in effect until Oct. 1:
- No watering allowed between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. – water during cooler parts of the day, when less water will evaporate
- Water no more than three days a week
- Don’t water so much that it collects in gutters, streets and alleys
- Control your sprinklers so that water doesn’t spray onto concrete or asphalt
- If your sprinkler system is leaking, you must repair it within 10 days to limit wasted water
- Don’t irrigate during a rainstorm or high winds
- When washing your car, be sure to use a nozzle that allows you to turn off the flow of water when you’re not using it
Denver does allow 21-day exemptions to the rules for homeowners with newly-planted grass seed or sod. To request an exemption, call 303-893-2444 or email customercare@denverwater.org.
