A structure fire at was at the Sombrero Ranch forced the closure of Niwot Road between U.S. Highway 287 and 95th Street Friday evening.

The fire, at 10111 Niwot Road, was confined to a 3,000-square-foot workshop building.

Firefighters said a couple of people were inside working on a car or truck, removing the gas tank, when gas spilled on a work light and that’s what started the fire.

Mountain View Fire Rescue was pouring water on the blaze, as thick smoke could be seen for miles at about 5:15 p.m.

Video from Airtracker7 showed large flames and smoke coming out of a metal building.  There were no injuries.
