JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. – A stretch of US Highway 285 was renamed for a Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy killed in early 2015.

The 7-mile stretch from mile marker 238 to 245 will now be known as Sergeant Sean P. Renfro Memorial Highway.

Sgt. Renfro, a 15-year law enforcement veteran, died on Jan. 3, 2015 when he was hit by a car on the same highway while stopping to help another driver. He was off duty at the time.

“Sergeant Renfro died doing what he did every day – protecting and serving the citizens of Jefferson County,” Sheriff Jeff Shrader said in a news release.
