Street racing blamed for serious crash; Young driver fighting for his life

AURORA, Colo. - A suspected street racer is wanted for a crash that left a young driver fighting for his life.

Aurora Police said witnesses told them a large number of cars were involved in an illegal street race Sunday night when a BMW crashed into a Honda at East Smith Road and Ensenada Street.

Police said the BMW was traveling at a high rate of speed, the Honda was not actively racing.

The juvenile driver of the Honda was seriously injured and may not survive, police said. Two passengers were also injured and hospitalized.

The driver of the BMW and several passengers ran from the scene.

Aurora Police said the BMW had been stolen earlier in Denver.

"This is reminder of the dangers of speed and racing," police said in a statement.

Anyone who saw the crash, especially anyone who was in the BMW, is asked to call Aurora Police Agent Chinn at 303-739-6342.
