Steamboat hotel guest armed with hunting bow arrested after standoff

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. - A Steamboat Springs hotel guest who passed some time firing arrows into a bed before threatening to kill police has been arrested after a four-hour standoff.

The Denver Post reports (http://bit.ly/16MX9Bl ) officers were called to the Ptarmigan Inn at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday on complaints that an extremely intoxicated and mentally unstable man was causing a disturbance. Police say the man, whose name has not been released, threatened to kill them and hotel staff if he was forced to leave the room.

At about 8:45 a.m., he opened a door onto the balcony and police who were stationed there made the arrest.

Police Sgt. Scott Middleton says the man was armed with a hunting bow and was shooting arrows into the mattress and a pizza box stuffed with shredded newspapers.
