State fair, 'American Idol' and more: 5 Things to Know for Friday, Aug. 25

DENVER – Good morning, everyone! Here’s what you need to know today on Friday, August 25.

1. Colorado State Fair kicks off
A concert Friday night by Gabriel Iglesias kicks off the annual event held in Pueblo. The 2017 Colorado State Fair marks the fair's 145th year as Colorado's premier celebration of agriculture. More: bit.ly/1rSxegE

2. Judge to decide on videotape confession
A judge will decide Friday whether jurors deciding the fate of a teen charged with murder can see a videotaped confession. Tanner Flores admitted to shooting his girlfriend Ashley Doolittle twice in a videotaped interview with a Mesa County detective. However, attorneys disagree whether the video should be entered into evidence. More: bit.ly/2wCHVA

3. Perfect car washing day
Friday looks like a nice exclamation point at the end of the week! Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s and we'll have a streak of mostly sunny conditions that will last into the weekend. 

4. 'American Idol' bus coming to Denver this weekend
American Idol is returning to television in 2018 and it’s coming to ABC and Denver7! The American Idol bus is going to be at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, August 26 for open auditions. Contestants can line up starting at 5 a.m., but registration won’t start until 7 a.m. The auditions themselves won’t start until 9 a.m. 

5. Bannock Street closure
A study of Bannock street will temporarily close Bannock street for five weeks.
