Springs man, Nick Chandler, accused of making child porn involving 5-year-old girl in mobile home

Chandler arrested in Florida; Girl found safe

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A Colorado Springs man has been arrested in Florida, accused of creating child pornography involving a 5-year-old girl at his mobile home in the Springs.

Nick L. Chandler, 37, was arrested in Tampa, Fla., on Tuesday night by officers of the Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Florida investigators were also able to locate the 5-year-old girl, who was found safe, Colorado Springs police said.

The investigation began on June 11 when the Colorado Springs Police Crimes Against Children Unit executed a search warrant at Chandler's mobile home at 5150 Airport Rd. as part of their investigation of a child pornography distribution case.

Investigators seized several computers and other digital media devices. They say the storage devices contained nearly 100 sexually explicit images of the 5-year-old girl on a computer, police said.

Investigators determined that the child porn images were likely created and placed on the computer in June 2012. Investigators also recognized several identifiable items in the background of the images that led them to believe they were taken at Chandler's mobile home in Colorado Springs, police said.

On Tuesday, investigators executed a second search warrant at Chandler's mobile home and were able to confirm that it was the location where the girl was sexually assaulted and they identified Chandler as the suspect, police said.

Investigators later identified the 5-year-old girl and obtained an arrest warrant charging Chandler with felony sexual exploitation of children, police said.

But Chandler was nowhere to be found.

Police said it appeared that he'd quickly left the mobile home, because he left behind many personal belongings along with food in the kitchen.

Colorado Springs investigators learned the suspect may have moved to Florida. They worked with the FBI, Florida ICAC and ICE agents to track Chandler down in Tampa.

He is being held at the Pinellas County Jail and awaits extradition to Colorado.
