Traffic signs on major interstates are reminding drivers that a Winter Storm Warning is in effect, even though it's almost May, at the same time, plows from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) are in place to clear snow expected during the Friday commute.

"We have to see how this storm plays out. Spring storms can be a little bit tricky at times," said Bob Wilson, CDOT communications manager.

Wilson said warm pavement temperatures should make it a little easier to clear the snow. In addition to focusing on the high country, CDOT is also concerned about the stretch of road between Denver and Colorado Springs.

"With temperatures staying right around the freeze line, that should help us out quite a bit but there’s still going to be a lot of heavy wet snow on the roadways so people need to be prepared for really slushy conditions," said Wilson.

One hundred plows are expected to be out in the Denver metro and will pretreat roads. CDOT deployed plows in the mountains Thursday afternoon.

A spokesperson for Denver International Airport said there could be delays in the morning when heavy wet snow is expected. Unlike the big storm earlier this month, the airport is not seeing massive cancelations ahead of time.
