EDGEWATER, Colo. - The students at Jefferson High School voted a special needs student prom king over the weekend.
Caryn Thomas told 7NEWS her son, Phillip Thomas, had been asked to the prom by a fellow student.
"It's just amazing - just how many people she's touched," said an emotional Thomas who needed to pause before continuing, "with her act of kindness."
Thomas shared a photo of the pair on Facebook, showing Phillip in his wheelchair wearing a black tuxedo with a pink bow tie and corsage. His date, in a matching dress, stood next to him with her hand on his shoulder.
"I don't know about you but this Mom can't stop smiling and crying," she wrote in the caption.
The post had 5,094 likes at approximately 5:20 p.m. Monday.
In addition to being prom king, Thomas said Phillip was a member of the Key Club and winner of a letter jacket for academics.
