A number of El Paso County residents say a 145-turbine wind farm near their homes is making them sick.

The Gazette reports that some residents in Calhan say the turbines, inaudible, low-frequency sound waves known as infrasound and a phenomenon that occurs near windmills called shadow flicker from NextEra Energy's Golden West Wind Energy Project are making them ill, causing headaches, nausea and dizziness.

One woman says she avoids going outside or opening her blinds because the sight of the spinning turbines make her sick.

An El Paso County spokesman says the claims are false. Scientific studies into the health issues related to turbines concluded there is not enough evidence to implicate the equipment.

Spokesman Steve Stengel says NextEra Energy is required to respond to complaints about the Golden West project within 30 days.
