Snowboarder hits tree, dies at Copper Mountain; coroner says Jonathan Belle was not wearing helmet

COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo. - Authorities said a snowboarder at Copper Mountain died after striking a tree Monday morning.

The Summit County Coroner's Office said the snowboarder was identified as 22-year-old Jonathan Belle, of Denver.

According to a news release by Copper Mountain Ski Resort, the crash occurred at around 9:30 a.m. while Belle was snowboarding on Vein Glory, a beginner trail.

Belle was not wearing a helmet, the Coroner's Office said.

Ski patrol officials provided emergency first aid and then transported Belled to the St. Anthony Copper Mountain Clinic, but he died from his injuries.

Authorities said an investigation into the crash is still underway.
