Smoke in Golden Gate Canyon caused by house fire near Centennial Cone Park

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. - Smoke in Golden Gate Canyon on Tuesday came from a house fire near one of the entrances to Centennial Cone Park.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reported the fire on Camino Perdido around 10:15 a.m.

The Sheriff's Office sent an emergency alert phone call to residents in a quarter mile area around the home to warm them about the fire and explain why there was smoke in the area.

The home that caught fire was a single-family home, officials said.

Mark Techmeyer with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office told 7NEWS that firefighters do not think any people or pets were in the home when the fire started.

Techmeyer said three fire departments were called out to fight the fire.

There's no word yet on what caused the fire.
