Smelling smoke? Winds carrying smoke from fires in New Mexico and Arizona to Colorado

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. - Are you smelling smoke?

Strong southwest winds are moving smoke from wildfires in New Mexico and Arizona to Colorado, according to 7NEWS meteorologist Lisa Hidalgo.

Douglas County 911 dispatchers are getting inundated with calls about the smoke smell.

"Douglas County Regional Dispatch Center Is experiencing a high volume of calls related to smoke from fires out of state," said Sgt. Ron Hanavan with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. "Heavy smell of smoke and some haze is reported throughout Douglas County.  At this time we ask that you only report any actual fires, plumes of smoke or flames. "

The smoke was also reported by the Colorado State Patrol in Alamosa.

"Heavy smoke across the SLV from NM and AZ fires. No reported fires in the area," CSP Alamosa tweeted.
