Tornadoes, flooding, hail hit NE Colorado

DENVER - Hail as large as baseballs and tornadoes were reported in northeast Colorado Saturday as severe weather moved through from the northwest to the southeast.

Flash flooding was also reported after heavy downpours hit some areas from Larimer County onto the Eastern Plains.   Severe weather was reported in central Greeley and into Evans, Colo.

Most of northeastern Colorado, including Denver, is under a tornado watch until 10 p.m.

There were several reports of tornado touchdowns and unconfirmed reports of roofs blown off houses in Weld County.  Crop damage was also reported from the severe weather.

The severe weather was drifting southeast.

"This is huge," said 7NEWS Meteorologist Matt Makens.

Makens said there were more than 2,000 lightning strikes in 10 minutes.

7NEWS Meteorologist Maureen McCann said there were six reports of tornadoes in the entire U.S. Saturday and all of them were in Colorado.

At about 5:45 p.m. Denver International Airport tweeted, "7 aircraft diverted due to winds this afternoon 1 Albuquerque, 1 Colorado Springs, 4 Grand Junction, 1 Pueblo."
